Mickalene Thomas is a New York based artist who works out of her Brooklyn studio creating elaborate paintings known for their embellished detailing, composed of rhinestones, acrylic and enamel. Thomas introduces a complex vision of what it means to be a woman, expanding on common definitions of beauty. Her work stems from her long study of art history and the classical genres of portraiture, landscape, and still life.
Drawing on pop culture with 70s undertones and a strong influence from her mother and their important relationship Mickalene's style is unmistakable. Third Drawer Down Studio were honoured to collaborate with Mickalene Thomas on a collection of accessories, tableware and homewares still to be expanded upon.
