Did you know iconic, New York-based artist Cindy Sherman is a swimmer? We are pee-in-our-pants (not the pool) excited to reveal the Cindy Sherman Oops Phone Float, the newest addition to Third Drawer Down’s Artist Inflatables Collection. Play with this metallic silver phone-shaped inflatable in the water or install it as a sculptural object in your home. The float was made in collaboration with Cindy Sherman and our friends at + POOL, the nonprofit who are building a water-filtering swimming pool in New York City’s river. This is a true passion project and an extraordinary moment to present a rare open edition product by the wildly influential and collectable artist and swimmer.
Cindy is known for exposing how culture shapes appearances, shattering conformities through her portrait-based photography (and with the occasional spontaneous images conjured while experimenting with Apps and her @cindysherman Instagram account). The float’s featured selfie image was accidentally created when two pics merged in the artist’s phone. We’re thrilled that Cindy’s Oops is now our treasure.
Third Drawer Down will donate some proceeds from all global sales to Friends of + POOL. Watch this 8-min. Tribeca Film Festival documentary narrated by actor Neil Patrick Harris to learn more about reclaiming New York’s river as a chemical-free, recreational resource for the city, while educating the public about issues affecting water quality.
