Catherine Ryan was born and raised in New Jersey. She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1996 and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the California College of the Arts in 2000.
Ryan has exhibited her work across the U.S. and internationally and in 2003 was included in Douglas Bullis' survey of west coast contemporary artists, 100 Artists of the West Coast.
She is currently working towards her Master of Fine Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute.
