Sculptor Agelio Batle honors some of nature’s most exquisite forms in this series of graphite objects. His reverence for organic shapes grew from formal studies in biology and art, but it was countless hours spent in the wilderness that gave the artist an intimate understanding of nature’s geometry. The objects are testament to that insight.
Each graphite object was made in Batle’s San Francisco studio, using a unique molding and carving process he originated and developed. Carbonaceous graphite (mineral remains of prehistoric plant life) was combined with smudge resistant compounds. This proprietary mixture is then fused into the delicate forms you see before you.
Batle sees these objects as sculpture, but they are also fully functional drawing tools. All of their surfaces can write! Enjoy.
